News: 24 January 2008
I am pleased to announce that Rod Weber, Associate Professor in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, has been awarded the second Cullen-Peck Faculty Fellow Award in the College of Sciences. As you know, Dr. Weber was selected by the office of the Dean of the College of Sciences from among faculty nominated by the Chairs of the Schools within the College.
Dr. Weber is nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in tropospheric atmospheric aerosols. He has developed innovative measurement techniques for new particle formation and aerosol chemical composition. His "particle into liquid" sampling technique has become the international standard for this work, and his observations have provided fundamental insights into aerosol formation, removal, and redistribution. He has participated in numerous major field experiments. He is applying these observations to regional studies of air quality, with applications to human health and visibility degradation, and most recently to climate change.
We are grateful for the funding for this award that was generously provided by Dr. Frank Cullen, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth Peck. Frank received his BS in Mathematics and his MS in Operations Research from Georgia Tech. Elizabeth received her BS in Mathematics and MS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech.
